Spicy Sizzle Mexican Salsa Negra

Spicy Sizzle Salsa Negra Introducing an intensely flavorful and aromatic salsa negra that will tantalize your tastebuds! Ingredients:

  • 3 roma tomatoes
  • 2 guajillo chiles, dried
  • 2 ancho chiles, dried
  • 1 arbol chiles, dried
  • 1⁄2 white onion, sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1⁄4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1⁄4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp Mexican oregano
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cups water

Optional Ingredients:

  • Lime juice
  • Cilantro
  • Crumbled queso fresco

Instructions:

  1. Remove stems and seeds from the dried chiles. Place in a small pot with the water and bring to a boil. Turn off heat and allow to rehydrate for 15 minutes.
  2. Place tomatoes and onion slices on a baking sheet. Broil for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until charred and softened.
  3. Place rehydrated chiles, charred vegetables, garlic, Mexican oregano, cumin, salt and brown sugar in a blender. Puree until smooth, adding water if necessary.
  4. Heat olive oil in small saucepan over medium heat. Pour in chile mixture and simmer for 5-10 minutes to meld flavors.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in apple cider vinegar. Add salt/sugar to taste if desired.
  6. Allow to cool and then serve over your favorite Mexican dishes! Garnish with lime juice, cilantro or queso fresco if desired. Enjoy!
